Line check, mic check & sound check

Line check: check each source separately for connection, routing and usable input. Mic check: check the speaking side, position, technique and interface gain.

Sound check: sing and play at performance volume, including the louder passages. If you are bringing a band, have the whole band play together. Listen back, adjust your local mix and repeat. A moving meter proves signal, not musical balance.

Your interface controls input gain and your voice/instrument balance. The host adjusts your received mix against other participants. Headphone volume changes what you hear, not input gain. Headphones are recommended for preparation and required for private intercom; use your interface’s direct monitoring for your own voice.

A limiter cannot repair clipping at your microphone or interface. A stereo mix contains Left and Right channels; instruments already mixed together cannot be separated here.

1 · What are you using?

Use the built-in microphone and speaker. Keep the device near you and start at a comfortable volume. Echo reduction stays on for conversation. If sound comes from the earpiece, use your phone’s sound-output controls or hold it like a call. This page cannot force the phone’s speaker route.

2 · Can you hear?

Use your device’s media-volume buttons while the sound plays.

3 · Can we hear you?

For a phone with no headset, choose Built-in / device default microphone. Plug in a headset before selecting its microphone.

Your test stays on this device and is discarded when you leave. It is not sent to the host. The test does not prove the live connection yet.

When your sound is working, reopen the private invitation your host sent. This check does not join an interview or send a recording.
